When considering an online career, you must address some important issues before making that big plunge into the unknown world of online marketing. One question I often hear is...."where do I start?"

Different Opinions:

If you talk to 10 different promoters online, you're going to get 10 different deals thrown at you quicker than you can blink an eye. Most of these deals don't make money on the internet....these gurus will con family and friends or anyone else who might stumble onto their email web of hype and false promises.

Statistics:

Statistics show that less than five percent of the people on the internet make money. WHY? First of all most people are jumping from one program to another trying to find the Magic Button you hear about on TV. Let me tell you, my friend....success on the internet doesn't't happen that way. You must "learn the process" and make it happen. It's a process that takes time and devotion to become a reality in your life.

Simple Questions to Ask:

You may have an idea of what product or service you want to market on the internet. Do your due diligence and make sure whatever venture you get involved in is not a fly by night deal that is being hyped as the best thing since the Model T. Ask yourself a few important questions. Does that project have a good track record? How long has the company been in business? Can you verify results? Where do they stand on the Internet. If the answer is no or questionable to any of these questions....my advise is....don't get involved.

Acquire Knowledge:

Second you must have some knowledge of the venture you are pursuing. If you don't have the facts....don't try to fake it...."you must learn....before you can earn." There are organizations who will teach you the process of becoming successful on the internet. Don't buy the first deal you look at...study it carefully and if you have questions ask a professional their opinion. A good professional will be more than happy to have a free consult with you and point you in the right direction.

Attend Training Classes:

If you don't have marketing knowledge....you may be able to get it for free. Not all free programs are worth participating in, however, by doing your research you can make an informed choice. Not all free program are bad...however, they are limited on what the will do. Marketing tools are an important component of every bodies marketing strategy. Without the proper marketing tools the effectiveness of your marketing efforts will be diminished drastically. You can use old tools and with a lot of knowledge of computers and a considerable amount of effort you may be able to put some form of a program together. However, in this modern era of fast computers and outstanding programs, your "quest for success" can be accelerated substantially. "Time is money....use your time wisely!"

Time and Monetary Commitments:

There is always a small monetary investment you must make. Some of tyour efforts may be in the form of your time. The time you devote to your marketing efforts will be in proportion to your online success. I'm not talking about the time you spend answering unimportant e-mails, surfing the web, playing games and all of the other distractions you may have when your on the internet. I'm talking about the quality time that you are actually devoting to promoting your business opportunity. This process is an ongoing process and you must be dedicated to a regiment of time and effort to become a success online.

Positive Mindset:

A positive mindset in any business is crucial if you want to promote your opportunity to profitability. One must set down and talk to yourself...make a list if necessary....and determine the direction you must take regarding your marketing efforts. How much time are you willing to devote? How much money are you willing you invest in proper marketing tools to succeed? What kind of a time frame are you willing to accept? These are just a few of the important decisions you must face in the early stages of your venture. Never put a time frame on your success. This is all part of the process of becoming profitable on the internet or fulfilling your marketing dreams.

"If you want to make the most out of your life, you must make a commitment to success rather than just making a New Years Resolution for change."

New Years Resolutions:

We've all made New Year's Resolutions....but how many times in your life have you really made a New Year's Commitment about something? We all have our own ideas of what the difference between a resolution and a commitment may be. Whenever I'm writing any article, I like to refer to Wikipedia the free encyclopedia for a definitive answer. I think Wikipedia, says it best in the fewest words.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

" A New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until fulfilled."

Commitment:

"Commitment means to duty or pledge to some thing or someone, and can refer to: Personal commitment, interaction dominated by obligations. These obligations may be mutual, or self-imposed, or explicitly stated, or may not. Distinction is often made between commitment as a member of an organisation (such as a sporting team, a religion, or as an employee). A personal commitment is a pledge or promise to ones' self for personal growth."

Resolutions:

I have made a New Year's Resolution more times than I can remember and the result is always the same. Most of us can relate to that. It has come to be a tradition in our American culture. Most people make their resolution and say "I'm going to loose weight!" You can probably count on one hand the people you have known in your life that really and truly followed through with that resolution. We are all guilty of such frivolous words. How many of us have really made a commitment and sincerely put forth the efforts to accomplish what we said we would do? You can make all the resolutions you want but until you are committed to your words, your efforts are in vain.

Personal:

In the year of 2010, there are certain things you need to commit to in your personal life as well as in your business life. Many people take the commitment to their business less important than their personal life. This is something that each of us must place the priority of personal versus business in the proper order. Sure we must all be committed to our family, our friends, our faith, our time, our education and the list goes on. Only you can decide which is the most important aspects of your commitment. If you are sincere and done your part up to now, many of these commitment will already be in place. Minor adjustments can be made as a problem presents its self. The same must be true in your business.

Business:

When discussing your business, your Commitment should be exactly as described above in the Wikipedia description. "Personal commitment, interaction dominated by obligations". Your business commitment has to be outlined by you personally and then followed through until additional features are required to accomplish your goals. Don't be afraid to add or take away from your plan to help you succeed quicker and more effectively. In the beginning, you need to establish some serious facts that your venture is legitimate and then establish what you must do to accomplish your objectives in your endevor!! Ask these important questions. Is it ligitimate? Is it reasonable? Is it realistic? Is it attainable?

Change of Mindset:

In a recent meeting I was privileged to attend, Butch Hamilton, SEO Master stated, "Whatever your thinking right now...is probably right". We've talked about mindset in some of our recent articles, and we have repeated over and over about one critical issue, and that is, you must be willing to change your mindset, before expecting positive results in any new beginning. This may be the one key ingredient you must change before anything can happen in your life. Try having a one on one discussion with yourself and commit to what changes must be done to make positive changes in your mindset. Why follow a path of doing what you've been doing over and over and coming up with the same disappointing results? If you continue to do the same things that caused you to fail, the results will be the same. You have perfectly followed the formula for failure.

Recommendation:

Let me recommend to devote some time right now, and have that long talk with yourself and see if you are making a New Years Resolution or are you making a Commitment that will change your life forever.

When considering what is needed to succeed on the internet, one thing will always rise to the top of the list. The answer is very simple. Knowledge!! Without knowledge you or your business will not have a direction to follow or a chance of success. If you're really serious about your future in business, you must immediately take the time and set your goals and then pursue the knowledge necessary to accomplish those goals. Having knowledge and applying that knowledge will equal experience. If experience and knowledge are put into action you are bound to succeed in whatever aspect of life you are working on.

I always like to see how Wikipedia describes a particular subject. The following is from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Knowledge:

"Knowledge is defined (Oxford English Dictionary) variously as (i) expertise, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject, (ii) what is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information or (iii) awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. Philosophical debates in general start with Plato's formulation of knowledge as "justified true belief". There is however no single agreed definition of knowledge presently, nor any prospect of one, and there remain numerous competing theories."

Expertise and Skills:

As the definition explains, (i) expertise, and skills acquired by experience or education is what its all about! It's going to require a lot of commitment on your part to make it all happen. You must take that first step and commit to getting the knowledge you need to make intelligent decisions regarding your business and future. There are no magic buttons as seen on TV. Set a realistic goal and stick to that goal and you will see results quicker that imaginable. Don't put it off another day...Start right now on your journey to acquire knowledge.

Believe in Yourself:

You must have a belief in yourself...in your mind and inner self that 1) you must increase your knowledge, and 2) commit to gaining that knowledge regardless of how long it takes. You may have an education goal that you want to finish by a specific date...that's OK. Never put a time frame on being a success on the internet. Have an open mind to continue to add to your knowledge base with online class room training and work hard to get the experience you need. This is not going to happen over night. The old saying "anything worth doing is worth doing right" is so true when your studying to better yourself and your business. There are no shortcuts. Commitment of time, money and self is important if you're really serious about your online success and future.

Complex Cognitive Processes:

Another quote from Wikipedia! "Knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning. The term knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose." I think this quote is well said....I can't add anything to this explanation.

We've all been duped and ovewhelmed with the smoke and mirrors of marketing programs that come in our email boxes promising to get rich quick. Everyday I receive literally hundreds of "to good to be true" pitches that I find really offensive because these ads insult my intelligence. Common sense tells me that there is nothing in this life that is so simple that you can...just enroll, you don't have to make any phone calls, mail out anything, go to any training and just do nothing else and retire within a 30 to 90 day period. Some go so far as you say you will be sitting on some exotic island sipping some adult beverage and watching the cash roll in. What a bunch of garbage. That would be one of those "to good to be true deals" we mentioned earlier.

Commitment:

There will always be work involved to accomplish your goals and gain success in any business you're involved in. You must be commited to spending some money (do it wisely) plus devoting an incredible amount of time in educating yourself with proper techinques and implementation. If you don"t want to make such a commiment, then I suggest you do what SEO Master Butch Hamilton suggested in a seminar recently, he said "pack your computer back in the box it came in and send it back to the manufacture". Don't waste anymore of your time or money on this endeavor. If this is your mindset, then don't waste the time of professionals marketers either.

Opt-in Leads and Real Time Leads generated in your own marketing system can help rocket your website(s) to new heights that you never imagined could be possible.

I like to use Wikepedia...the free encyclopedia to offer their view on the true meaning of various marketing terms. I searched Wikepedia and found some interesting content regarding sales leads. My goal was to accurately understand the difference between Opt-in and Read Time leads.

Differences:

Opt-in Leads:

A good quality Opt-in lead should include the persons name, email address and in some cases a phone number. With a viable name and email address you can contact the individual or business with your current method of follow-up. A phone call is the most positive method of follow-up, however, use what ever method of follow up that has been effective for you. As stated above the Opt-in Lead is much cheaper to generate than a Real Time Lead, so as a business person you must make the determination of which kind of lead and what cost you are willing to expend for such a lead.
