One of the first places I learned to promote locally, online, was Google's Local Business Center. According to the site, "Millions of people search Google Maps every day. A free listing on Google Maps makes it easy for them to find you.". You can create a map listing for your business, including all necessary information. (Business name, location, hours, coupons, exact map location, more). Again, from the site, "Use the Local Business Center to create your free listing. When potential customers search Maps for local information, they'll find your business: your address, hours of operation, even photos of your storefront or products. It's easy, free, and you don't need a website of your own."
Online Solutions to Local Search
In addition to Google's Local Business center, remember Yahoo, MSN, and Ask to name a few. The product that I promote online also is very applicable to the local business, needing local leads. I live in a busy resort area, the business opportunities are endless. Where ever you are doing business, your local market is an important market share for you.
Other online listings may provide local search helps such as maps, directions, hours and more. Try Merchant Circle. My husband has our business listed there, and we have gotten excellent free local leads.
Local press releases are another option. Online press releases can greatly boost your search engine listings. Focus your press release to your local market. I would target Gatlinburg, TN or the Smoky Mountains. By doing a search, you may be able to find online press release services that are focused to your local area. This has proven very effective for us, as well.
