For those of you who follow my writings, I have put a lot of emphasis on having your web site optimized for the search engines. I have given you information on how to maximize your site for better search engine page rankings on Google, Yahoo and Bing. Optimizing your web site is important to get recognized on line, however, you can over optimize your site, or have an imbalance of the algorithms of the engines if you're not careful. What we will discuss today is, all about keeping that balance in check for the maximum exposure, without being penalized by the search engines.
The search engines really don't care whether your site was intentionally over optimized in an effort to fool them, or you just accidentally over stepped the boundary lines of good common sense optimization. The end result is going to be the same, with deduction of points from your algorithm score, thus lowering your page ranks, or maybe even be banned from Google and some of the other search engines altogether. Learn the process of what is acceptable and not acceptable and follow those practices as closely as possible and you should be able to stay out of trouble with the engine.
Over the years there have been some so-called SEO experts who have over stepped their bounds of optimization and have paid severally for it, by getting banned. We will attempt to point out some of these pitfalls so you can avoid as many problems as possible. First of all, don't try to fool the search engines by manipulation in any fashion. If the search engines don't pick up on your scam, some sharp individual online will pick up on your intent and report you to the various engines, which would be devastating to your online future.
We mentioned in yesterdays article a little bit about Keyword Stuffing. We stated that a 5-7% ratio of keywords to content is acceptable. Some experts will even narrow that percentage figure down to a narrower acceptable ratio. Keyword stuffing is an unethical practice anywhere in your web site or article writings. Over doing this practice in article writing can have an adverse effect on your success in getting your writings accepted and published. Using a higher percentage of say 10% or more will probably make the content of your article, make no sense to the reader anyway. Keyword Density and Keyword Stuffing are two of the areas of optimization you need to understand and practice good common sense at all times regarding their use.
Keyword Density in your title, headings, and the first 50 words of your content does matter. Be very careful not to over do it here, but, make sure some keywords are in your title, meta tags for better exposure of your web site on the internet. One hint her would be to use some synonyms in the content of your article or web site. The search engines look at bold and/or italics in your site as keywords. Again, don't over do it here either. There are marketing tool out there that will help you keep this all in perspective. This author does not recommend or endorse, any particular product for this function, so, go on line and do your research for the one that may fit your particular needs.
Using Doorway pages in most cases, could be a catastrophe waiting to happen. Doorway pages was used by some questionable marketing guru's before all the latest search engine algorithms came into play. Doorway pages can be used to promote your site effectively, however, make sure you know what your doing or you will be penalized very quickly by the search engines. If you use doorway pages and get penalized....don't ask why this happened. The accepted guidelines are very narrow here, so, if you don't understand how to do this process, then forget about using doorway page all together.
Fresh, relevant keyword, rich content, is King in every aspect of search engine optimization. Duplicate content can be a disaster. The meaning of duplicate content is rather simple....it is any text that is the same as the text on a different page of the same web site. If you copy and paste a paragraph from one page of your site and paste it in another page of your site, it is considered as duplicate content, and you will be penalized. Most expert agree that syndicated articles are not considered as duplicate content. If syndicated content was considered as a duplication, then the news agencies would be dropped from the search engines immediately.
Avoid link spamming at all cost. Research the different kinds of links and why they are so important to your online success, and then use those linking strategies to your advantage. You will see a dramatic improvement to your page rankings with the search engines.
